Research initiative
Femto Forum is the only industry body dedicated to the promotion of femtocell technology worldwide. Femto Forum has over 100 operator and vendor members (see full list) and has established liaisons with major standards bodies including 3GPP, 3GPP2, WiMAX Forum and Broadband Forum. Since its inception in June 2007, the Forum has been instrumental in encouraging industry consensus on technical approaches leading to progress in standards bodies has raised the profile of femtocells within the industry and beyond, and has addressed the initial market and technological factors necessary for femtocells to be launched by operators worldwide. This innovative and powerful technology has, however, received relatively little attention in the research community. Femto Forum wishes to encourage high quality, precompetitive research aligned to its long-term vision of the role of femtocells in the evolution of mobile networks over the long term. We are currently considering how best to engage with research institutions and are seeking to build up an understanding of the capabilities of research institutions globally who have an active programme or a strong capability to perform research in this area. The research of interest is broadly-based, including technical, economic, regulatory, business, management, manufacturing and environmental factors. We would welcome descriptions of research capabilities from academic and independent research organisations, including: • Nature of your institution • Track record • Research interests of relevance to femtocells • List of relevant papers (copies of key papers may be submitted) • Research plans in the femtocell area The format of these statements is entirely flexible. The capability statements will be drawn to the attention of Femto Forum members for their information. Consideration of these may also lead to invitations to present at Femto Forum meetings, support for research applications and direct requests to perform research. Submissions should be sent to info@femtoforum.org We would also like to encourage the submission of research presentations to our conference series, details of which can be found on our Events Page. |
