Applications Live! The inaugural Femtocell Applications Live! event was held on 23 June in London and provided a visual showcase demonstrating how femtocell applications could potentially change our lives and highlighted what types of application developers could build for femtocells. The event was supported by 11 companies who gave demonstrations of novel femtocell applications, ranging from new ways to control your media server to "virtual fridge notes" and home automation. Although the majority of applications were provided by femtocell vendors, two independent application developers, Intrinsyc and Mobica, presented their applications at the event marking the first small step forward towards creating an application ecosystem. Video clips of some of the applications shown at the event are included on this page. Femtocell Applications Live! will be a regular event designed to showcase the potential of femtocell applications, to recognise the very best of femtocell applications and to provide a focus event for the femtocell application developer community. Ultimately, the event aims to move from showing applications that illustrate potential services to showing the most novel, cutting edge commercial femtocell applications. Here are a selection of this year's demonstrations. Airvana Location-Aware Messaging - The HubBub™ femtocell provides accurate presence information of handsets in the home. Automatic SMS messages like "I got home" or "I'm leaving home" can be sent to a family member outside the home when entering or leaving the femtocell zone. Home Playback - The HubBub™ femtocell has local breakout capability that creates a direct connection from the mobile handset to a device on the home network allowing media to appear on the home device when arriving home. Alcatel Lucent I can see U - A peace of mind service. Geo mag. - E-magazines are delivered when recipient enters femtocell zone. Home notes - Messages sent to a given femtocell are only delivered when recipient enters. Huawei Intelligent radio detecting femtocell coverage - Addresses power consumption challenges Push service in the home zone - Femtocell detects presence & offers users hot new apps When family members arrive home the femtocell notifies by text. ip.access Facebook virtual fridge notes application - Reminder messages are received by the occupant when a femtocell provides home presence information. Femto-enabled connected home applications - Media sharing on the home network using UPnP, over a 3G femtocell. Phone used to: Stream music from PC Show photos on TV Change tracks on music player Enhancing performance of Slingbox TV service on a 3G phone via the femtocell. Motorola Demonstration of video streaming on the mobile through femtocell using electronic planning guide. Demonstration of a touch screen menu and features on femtocell that assist network planning. Pirelli IMTV Application - This demonstration shows a co-operative use case between a mobile application (IM) and a fixed one (digital TV) that allows interaction into a blended one-screen using 3G femtocell, in two separate situations. This demonstrates that the use of a femtocell removes the need for a WiFi-enabled handset. Sagem Communications Trigger different actions in the home through presence & type of call (ie, incoming and outgoing calls). Use your mobile to control your home environment (appliance, energy and multimedia), either at home or remotely. Softbank Notification to your mobile from the femtocell as you leave your house of windows or doors not locked or appliances left on. Remote control of home heating, ventilation, etc using your mobile phone and femtocell. Intruder alert notification by mobile phone. Thomson Use a standard mobile handset, integrated into the home network, as a universal remote control connected via 3G. Handset as digital media control point - to control home multimedia system in dlna environment Handset as universal remote control - Keypad, and display for an X.10 control application hosted by the femto CPE in OSGi environment. Ubiquisys Mobica Podcast Sync App - This application automatically downloads your latest podcasts to your phone when you arrive home. The use of Mobica's Generic Connection Framework allow the mobile operator to specify both the type and source of content. Intrinsyc UX-Zone: a "chameleon" app for Android phones - This application changes the appearance of the Android phone interface automatically as you enter your home or office. It is tuned for home, work and leisure simultaneously.
